From August to September of this year, tea professionals from the Sayama region will put their full effort into delivering a four-part series of "Unrivaled! Sayama Tea Seminar Definitive Edition."

What do you think of when you hear the word tea? A plastic bottle? A tea machine in a restaurant or service area? Well, that's how most people feel. .

However, you usually drink tea from a plastic bottle without thinking about it. Tea is quite profound. It has a long history.

If you think that, oh, that sounds interesting, you can join us. If you are interested in green tea already, of course, you can be with us. And, anyone else are welcome to participate!

1st session: Basic Knowledge Of Green Tea and How To Brew It

August 3 (Sat), 2024

An introductory guide to get you started. Why don’t you step into the profound world of green tea? Even people who don't know anything about green tea can easily learn the basics and enjoy making a delicious tea.

The 4th generation head of Matoba-en in Iruma City.

Graduated from Nihon University College of Commerce. Speech on management strategy at the National Farmers Conference project presentation. He won the Kanto tournament and entered the national tournament. Commercialized "edible tea" using sweet and strong tea leaves. Research on tea seed oil is also under development. In order to convey the appeal of tea, we hold tea-brewing classes in Tokyo.

He offers innovative products that are ahead of the times, such as “Tea Genovese” “Japanese Tea and Sauna'' and “Cinnamon Hojicha for India”. Sayama's genius creates new value for green tea.

2nd session: History of Sayama Green Tea August 24th (Sat), 2024

The history of Sayama tea dates back to the Kamakura period. We will introduce the history of Sayama tea, which has come to be known as one of Japan's top three teas, along with some unknown anecdotes.

Iruma City Museum (ALIT) Curator

After working at Iruma City Hall's City History Compilation Office, he started working at Iruma City Museum in 1994. In charge of curatorial affairs. Retired in 2014 and currently works as a document researcher at Iruma City Museum. Member of the Saitama Prefecture Biography Encyclopedia, vice president of the Saitama Prefecture Municipal History Liaison Council, part-time lecturer at Waseda University, Otsuma Women's University, Musashino College of Music, Japan Women's University, etc., as well as a full-time instructor training judge for Japanese tea instructors, and a Japanese tea certification official. Serves as a committee member. Currently, as a member of the Iruma City Cultural Properties Protection Committee and a member of the Japanese Tea Instructor Certification Committee, he writes and lectures on tea making, food education, etc.

3rd session: Tea Varieties Produced In Sayama September 14th (Sat), 2024

Among the many types of Japanese tea, there are many varieties that originated in Sayama.

We will explain in detail what are main varieties and characteristics and how to brew, how to drink, etc. Of course, you can also compare drinks!

The 6th generation head of Yokota-en in Sayama City.

Graduated from Meiji University Faculty of Agriculture. Vegetable and Tea Industry Research Institute After two years of training at the Kanaya Tea Industry Research Center, he started farming at the family business. Production, processing, and sales will take place on a 2.2ha tea plantation. Thirteen varieties are cultivated, including Yabukita, Sayamakaori, and Okuharuka. Recently, he has also taken on the challenge of making oolong tea.

4th session: On-site Green Tea Experience September 28 (Sat), 2024

Finally, have a real experience at the Sayama tea production area! Please try tea picking and tea making while being healed by the fields and the nature of Sayama, that spreads out in front of you!

Date and time: Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 14:00 to 16:00

Place: TBD (scheduled to be held at a tea garden in Iruma City or Tokorozawa City)
